Chiasma
Cycle for piano
The idea for the 11-movement piano solo cycle Chiasma arose in 2019 and began with the collection of compositions that explore the various tonal possibilities, "advantages" and peculiarities of the piano, initially limited to pure playing with keys and pedal. The haptic starting point for the music is therefore the nature of the hands and the structure of the keyboard. The title symbolizes this thematic framework and the resulting balancing of (a-)symmetry, complementarity and their intersections on different musical levels.
Raureif
Cycle for piano, double bass and percussion
The 8-movement cycle Raureif is a compositional study for a piano trio line-up that is otherwise more typical of jazz. It was interpreted and collectively arranged by the Moritz Preisler Trio with David Helm on double bass and Jan Philipp on drums over a period of two years. On February 22, 2022, the Cologne label Klaeng Records released a CD recording that combines this work with an arrangement of an early song by Alban Berg.
"highly intelligent style, lightness and depth of this young trio" (Martin Hufner / neue musikzeitung)
"Abstract, angular and yet amazingly playful and lyrical" (Niklas Wandt / WDR)
"a very special poetry" (Martin Laurentius / Jazzthing)
"always in motion, bizarrely beautiful and full of compositional ideas." (Daniella Baumeister / hr)
"Another acoustic piano trio, then. This one has its own approach, which carries over the length of the CD" (Ulrich Steinmetzger / Jazzpodium)
Konturen
Concert piece for violin & electric guitar
The approximately 10-minute, one-movement work Konturen is a contemporary homage to Astor Piazzolla on the occasion of his 100th anniversary (2021). The following year, the piece was premiered by the duo Ségotal with Tal Botvinik on guitar on February 12, 2022 in the TanzFaktur in Cologne as part of the multi-interdisciplinary project Stories For Astor (music, dance and light art by Jacqueline Hen) by violinist Ségolène de Beaufond.
